  • General Information

    1. Classification - 10th edition — single class filing. Class 33, alcoholic goods in class 32, and pork meat in class 29 cannot be registered
    2. Search - Possible for word marks ONLY
    3. Examination – Formality and substantive
    4. Opposition period - 30 days from last publication date
    5. Extension of time - Not possible for filing oppositions, counter oppositions, and responding to office actions
    6. Term of protection - 10 years from filing date and renewable for similar periods
    7. Use - Mark is vulnerable to cancellation action by interested parties if there is no bona fide use of the mark for a period of 5 consecutive years from registration date

  • General Information

    1. Search – Searches may be done by title, patentee name and PCT number at the patent office 
    2. Examination - Formality, novelty, inventiveness, industrial applicability, unity and compliance
    3. Publication - Applications are published upon grant
    4. Opposition period - 60 days from publication in the IP Bulletin issued by the Patent Office after acceptance
    5. Annuities - Paid annually on the anniversary of the international filing date, can also be paid on pending applications. 6 months grace period is allowed for late payment and the last 3 months of which are subject to a penalty. Restoration is applicable after the grace period. 
    6. Term of protection - 20 years from filing date and 10 years from filing date for utility model

    • Certified copy of the priority document, in case of claiming priority.
    • Copy of the Search Report and Preliminary Examination Report of the corresponding PCT application and the Application as published; in case of entering a National Phase under the PCT scheme.
    • Specification, claims, abstract in Word format and formal drawings, if any, in English and Arabic languages.

  • Assignment

    • Power of Attorney, from the Assignee, duly legalized by the U.A.E. Consulate
    • Deed of Assignment signed by both Assignor and Assignee, duly legalized by the U.A.E. Consulate
    • Copy of the Extract from the Commercial Register or Articles of Incorporation, duly legalized by the U.A.E. Consulate.

  • Change of Name and/or Address

    • Power of Attorney, in the new name and/or address, duly legalized by the U.A.E. Consulate

    • Certified copy of the priority document (in case convention priority is to be claimed).
